Before Technicolor

I cannot help but be obsessed with black and white right now.
I love that the two colors work as neutrals whether they're separate or combined, not to mention they're super high contrast (which I love). Plus, when you throw in another color, especially a neon, the aesthetic elevates exponentially. Right now, I'm really into more geometric prints in black and white like those right angle pants, but I'm always a sucker for some classic dots or stripes (or both).
What's your favorite color combo?

Also, so glad there's a day to remember those who have fought and continue fighting for the freedom we enjoy. Happy Memorial Day!

Weekend Five

//1// Stromae

Album Racine carrée

I am a worldly person-- and my music taste reflects that. Scrolling through my iPod you'll find some Spanish, Greek, Korean, and other languages in my playlists. The popular French artist, Stromae, has internationally chart-topping songs including Papaoutai and Alors On Danse. I've listened to Stromae for a while and his music and flare has only sprouted since then. His songs Tous Les Memes (I couldn't find the little accent sorry!) and carmen (yes, it's lowercase) have been on repeat these past couple days. Stromae's lyrics and passion shine through his song, paired with profound videos, to tackle the best and worst human qualities.

//2// Bar Luce

 It's perfection.

Too cute.

Picture perfect.

Can't handle it.

No one could make a bathroom that looks this amazing.

OH MAN guys Wes Anderson DESIGNED A CAFE in MILAN. I'm sorry for fangirling but this place is ALL that you would expect and more. Bar Luce is quirky, pastel, and right from your dreams. Anderson's unique style adds so much character the place. Please look at that sugar packet again. Excuse me while I pack my bags, I'm leaving for Milan.

//3// Florence + The Machine

Florence + The Machine's new album How Big How Blue How Beautiful will be released Jun 1st and her fans cannot wait. But before the whole album is for sale a number of fantastic songs have already been released on her YouTube channel. Part 1 of the Odyssey is What Kind of Man and the second is St. Jude. A few other songs have also been released and are as powerful as the two above. Florence's voice is like liquid gold and hypnotizing to the listeners- it's simply amazing.

 //4//Rad.

Hannah and I have put these shirt in a number of our posts simply because we cannot get enough. I mean who doesn't love a classical painting with some sassy commentary on it? These are really cool shirts for a good price so we might as well enjoy them. Throw of a pair of high waited shorts, a bracelet, and some sandals, and bam! all ready to go.

This Woman Fights Gender Stereotypes With Hilarious Cartoons

There isn't anything better than an artist fighting gender stereotypes with hilarious cartoons. Correll is also very understanding of people who can relate to animals and enjoy foods like pizza. The sassy writing, bright colors, and drawing style really add to the quality of the pictures. I thank you, Gemma Correll, for your awesome and relatable cartoons that I so deeply enjoy.

Have a fantastic Friday and wonderful weekend!

Look, Listen, Watch, Read

Keith Haring

I discovered his work for myself during our San Fran excursion: it was everywhere! There was a sculpture we passed, every store had some dancing man on a tee shirt, there was a chapel dedicated to those lost to AIDS featuring a piece of his on display. While his pieces are chaotic and rather abstract, I can't help but be fascinated and drawn in. Everything is bold and colorful and nothing that had ever been seen before. He produced modern art paired with messages that were beyond modern. He talked about issues that are still controversial today. I want a copy of all of his work and I kind of want my life to look like one of his paintings: full of life and motion.

St. Vincent

I just discovered this amazing artist and I'm literally in love. Her music is hypnotizing, her lyrics are poetic and artistic, and her hair is as quirky as she is. She's one of the only musicians from the 2010's that I can enjoy--a rare find. The first time I heard her music, I immediately envisioned David Byrne and my dad later informed me that they had produced an album together. They mesh perfectly and their collaboration may be my favorite album of hers, but it's hard to compete.

literally too cute

What a queen, amirite?

Ps she makes super cool music videos. Check out my faves herehereherehere

Friends

I know I'm a teensy bit late on this bandwagon, but I've started from the very very beginning and I can't stop. *obsessively sings the theme song*

As I Lay Dying

We read this in English class and I thought that I would hate it, but I fell in love with the depth of everything. There are 15 different narrators illustrating a family's quest to bury their mother. It sounds simple enough, but the plot is so multifaceted...
Disclaimer: if you're looking for a feel-good book, this isn't it. If you're looking for a somewhat challenging read that provokes thoughts and discussion, this is it.

Have an awesome weekend

Fox Shirts & Grid Skirts

Well this is awkward...
I'm pretty sure I said we would be getting ourselves together soon (blog-wise), and yet we managed to fall wayyyy behind again
I'm blaming AP's and leader tryouts, but there's still no excuse. Anyways, Anastasia and I will both have much more time now since our classes are winding down for the year. Step one is to get posts under control and Step two is to confront the hundred+ deep unread bloglovin feed.

Because when is there an inappropriate time to high school musical jump?

showcasing the new hair that I unsuccessfully tried to crimp via braids
It's been a while since I did an outfit post, but it's also been a while since I've really known what I like in terms of style. For the longest time, I forced myself to be preppy and I'm finally breaking out of that. Instead, I go for vintage buttons and fox shirts with grid skirts. Because why not, amirite?
Speaking of grid skirts, I made this.
No seriously.
I sewed the skirt and then had to deconstruct and re-sew it with the lining in. Painful, time consuming, and a means of procrastination, but I like to think it paid off. I'm thinking about posting a tutorial (mainly because it would mean that I got to make myself another skirt), but I'm self-taught and I mostly get my tutorials from other blogs or vlogs. However, if you like to sew or are interested in learniong some sewing basics, let me know and I'll make it happen!!
P.S did anyone catch the new header? It took us quite a while to find the right font and figure out how to get it to be clear and to scale without using photoshop (neither of us have it), but I'm loving the way it looks and I hope you do too.
